PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — Authorities are searching for a man who did not resurface after jumping into Lake Pleasant on Saturday afternoon. Lake Patrol Deputies were called to a possible drowning around 2 p.m. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses told deputies that the man had jumped from the boat into the water to retrieve a hat. However, he never came back up. Witnesses also said the man was not wearing a life vest. As of Sunday morning, the man still hasn’t been found. According to the United States Coast Guard, 80% of people who died from drownings in 2022 were not wearing a life jacket. Division Commander of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in Arizona, Jack Pauly, wants everyone to stay safe out on Arizona’s waters by wearing a life jacket, taking boating safety classes, and staying hydrated with water. “Equipment on board, should there be an emergency of someone going overboard a throwable flotation device to assist them. First aid kit, and maybe a little basic knowledge in first aid wouldn’t hurt,” said Pauly. An investigation is underway. See a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
